Pittsfield Astros Game, August 22, 2001
These pictures were taken with my Olympus C2100-UZ digital camera at
Wahconah Park in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, on August 22, 2001, at a
New York-Penn league game between the Williamsport Crosscutters and
the Pittsfield Astros. All images are 24-bit JPEGs and should be
viewed on a 24-bit display. Quality is likely to be very poor when
viewed on an 8-bit display. Most images are shown at a resolution of
640x480, but are available in 800x600 and full 1600x1200 sizes by
clicking on the links after the captions.
Arrival at the Park.
[800x600][1600x1200]
The inside of the park, shortly after the sun set far enough that we could see again.
[800x600][1600x1200]
Astros starter Ernie Sinclair.
[800x600][1600x1200]
Crosscutters outfielder Matt Meath.
[800x600][1600x1200]
Sinclair delivers.
[800x600][1600x1200]
We were in the fourth row (there aren't all that many rows) and right where Williamsport batters would stand on deck.
[800x600][1600x1200]
[800x600][1600x1200]
Crosscutter first baseman Walter Young in the on-deck circle. Walter is a big man.
[800x600][1600x1200]
The Astros dugout across home plate from our seats.
[800x600][1600x1200]
Crosscutters starter John VanBenschoten.
[800x600][1600x1200]
The Astros' Brooks Conrad at bat.
[800x600][1600x1200]
Conrad swings - and it's a triple to right.
[800x600][1600x1200]
Driving in Michael Rodriguez with the go-ahead run. Pittsfield 2, Williamsport 1 in the third.
[800x600][1600x1200]
Todd Self at bat.
[800x600][1600x1200]
And he singles in Conrad.
[800x600][1600x1200]
This is the Pittsfield mascot, whose name is apparently Boomer.
[800x600][1600x1200]
I think he has a vision problem.
[800x600][1600x1200]
The Crosscutters in the field.
[800x600][1600x1200]
New Williamsport pitcher, Julio Guererro.
[800x600][1600x1200]
Brooks Conrad at bat again.
[800x600][1600x1200]
Still up there. Despite these swings, this at-bat would be a 7th-inning walk.
[800x600][1600x1200]
The Pittsfield bullpen.
[800x600][1600x1200]
Crescent moon over left field.
[800x600][1600x1200]
There it is again, just above the trees.
[800x600][1600x1200]
Another Williamsport pitcher - Dan D'Amato.
[800x600][1600x1200]
The bottom of the 7th. Yes, the Astros have 5 errors, all on the infield, and are still winning.
[800x600][1600x1200]
Pittsfield closer Brandon Wood comes on for the 5-out save. He entered with 1 out and the tying run on 3rd.
[800x600][1600x1200]
Wood again.
[800x600][1600x1200]
This was the would-be tying run, Josh Hudnall, who was gunned out trying to score on a ground ball to short.
[800x600][1600x1200]
The tying run is now at first, in the 9th inning. This is Domingo Cuello.
[800x600][1600x1200]
And he steals second.
[800x600][1600x1200]
Walter Young, batting in the 9th with the tying run at second and 2 outs.
[800x600][1600x1200]
Wood delivers.
[800x600][1600x1200]
Cuello down at second base. Do you still pitch to Young, who drilled a 3-run home run in the 7th?
[800x600][1600x1200]
Yes, you do. And he strikes out.
[800x600][1600x1200]
Ball game over.
[800x600][1600x1200]
Happy Astros.
[800x600][1600x1200]
Pittsfield 6, Williamsport 5. 6 errors - Cuello reached on an error to make the 9th extra interesting.
[800x600][1600x1200]
The Crosscutters head off.
[800x600][1600x1200]
Both teams leave the field.
