Edward "Ted" and Pat Jones-Confluence Point State Park, Missouri - July 22, 2005
First stop on the Charles and Jill tour -- the park at the confluence
of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers.
Not at the park, yet. This is in Florissant, Missouri.

Crossing the Missouri River on US 67.

The bridge carrying US 67 to Alton. Illinois. More on this later.

Along the trail from the parking lot, there seems to be some dredging going on in the Missouri just before it ends.
[2048x1536]
The low Missouri.
[2048x1536]
[2048x1536]
The dredging barges.
[2048x1536]
The path. This shade is good on a 95-degree, humid, sunny day.
[2048x1536]
Looking through at the trees at two barges loaded up with sand.
[2048x1536]
[2048x1536]
At the confluence. Charles and Jill visit often and hadn't seen the river this low before.

[2048x1536]
Don't fall in.
[2048x1536]
The Mississippi. This is definitely Mississippi mud.
[2048x1536]
The tower in the distance is the Lewis and Clark Confluence Tower in Hartford, Illinois.
[2048x1536]
The mixing of the Mississippi on the left, Missouri on the right.
[2048x1536]
Tugging one of the barges.
[2048x1536]
[2048x1536]
Looking upstream on the Missouri from the confluence.
[2048x1536]
Back up to the park. The flagpole way up was erected to show the high-water mark from the Flood of '93.
[2048x1536]
Back at the parking lot.
