Florida - July 30, 2005

The ride mainly across I-10 through the Florida panhandle. The only diversion was for a quick pass through Calhoun and Liberty counties, with Liberty being the last of Florida's counties that I needed to visit to complete the state. In addition to the usual roads and scenes, there's quite a bit of evidence of Hurricane Ivan damage in the Pensacola area.

Into Florida on I-10. [2048x1536]

The trees are looking pretty battered here in Escambia county. [2048x1536]

Big merge down to one lane to cross Escambia Bay on the I-10 bridges that were badly damaged by Ivan. [2048x1536]

[2048x1536]

[2048x1536]

Coming up on a temporary steel grate section of the bridge that replaces a part badly damaged or destroyed. [2048x1536]

[2048x1536]

[2048x1536]

[2048x1536]

More steel grating. [2048x1536]

[2048x1536]

Ivan tree damage. [2048x1536]

Ivan sign damage. [2048x1536]

Ivan sign destruction. [2048x1536]

[2048x1536]

[2048x1536]

[2048x1536]

Good-sized tree knocked over. [2048x1536]

Contruction at the exit where we got gas. Two gas stations here were abandoned. It wasn't clear if this had anything to do with hurricane damage. [2048x1536]

[2048x1536]

[2048x1536]

Turn off for a brief side trip. [2048x1536]

We went south on 71 for a bit. [2048x1536]

To this town: Blountstown. [2048x1536]

More Blountstown. [2048x1536]

Calhoun county's old courthouse. [2048x1536]

After crossing into Liberty County (and Eastern Time), we turned back up toward I-10 on Route 12. [2048x1536]

Back on I-10, we saw a rainbow. [2048x1536]

Another attempt to take a picture of the rainbow. [2048x1536]

Continuing on I-10. [2048x1536]

Practicing with low-light modes on the camera. Not bad. [2048x1536]

[2048x1536]

[2048x1536]

Crossing the Suwanee River, a sign with a few bars of actual music. [2048x1536]

Another attempt at that sign. Too bad it was just a bit too dark. [2048x1536]
