Arizona Weekend - September 12-14, 2003
These pictures were taken on a weekend trip from Albuquerque, New
Mexico, to a few places in Arizona. They were taken with my Olympus
C730 Ultra Zoom digital camera. Most images are shown at a resolution
of 640x480, but are available in full 2048x1536 size by clicking on

I started from Albuquerque in the morning and headed west on I-40
through New Mexico and across the Continental Divide [9 Pictures]. I stopped for lunch in Gallup
[3 Pictures] before entering Arizona [4 Pictures]. I continued west on I-40 [7 Pictures], taking the Historic US 66 loop
through Winslow [4 Pictures]. I was a
bit ahead of schedule and decided I had time for a side trip to Meteor
Crater, which was only a few miles off the highway [19 Pictures]. Then it was on into the
higher elevations to Flagstaff [3
Pictures]. After meeting up with Rob, we headed out for a ride to
Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument,
where we took the trail out
among the lava flows [18 Pictures] and
stopped at the Cinder Hills Overlook [4
Pictures]. While up that way, we also made a short stop at
Wupatki National Monument to see some ruins [16 Pictures], then went back to Flagstaff
for dinner.

After dropping Rob's rental car at the airport in Flagstaff [4 Sign Pictures], we took a
ride to the Arizona Snowbowl, where we took a chair lift ride to get
some views of northern Arizona's mountains [14 Pictures]. From there, it was on down
I-17 to Phoenix [20 Pictures]. After
checking into the hotel, we went into downtown [2 Pictures] and to Bank One Ballpark [Picture] for the game between the Colorado
Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks [15 Pregame
Pictures][13 Game Pictures][5 Postgame Pictures].

We decided to take the southern route back to Albuquerque, going from
Phoenix to Tucson [12 Pictures], where we
made a side trip to Saguaro National Park,
where we stopped at the
visitors center [23 Pictures], then took the
driving loop tour through the very impressive cactus forest [30 Pictures]. Then it was time to ride back
to Albuquerque. We made a lunch stop in Benson [2 Pictures], then continued east on I-10
through southeastern Arizona [7 Pictures]
and on into New Mexico [10 Pictures]. We
cut the corner [2 Pictures] to I-25 North
and stopped for dinner in Truth or Consequences [Picture].
