Colorado Trip - March 3-10, 2013
These pictures were taken with my Fujifilm Finepix S9000 digital camera,
Cathy's Canon PowerShot A540, and Mike's iPhone
on a trip to Colorado from March 3-10, 2013.
Images are shown at a resolution of 640x480,
but many are available
in half of original size by clicking on the links after the captions.
Pictures are divided among these pages:
Sunday, March 3
Travel day. Mike had already been at the
airport [Picture] for a while when I
arrived so we already had our rental car and were soon on our way
across Denver [8 Road Pictures] for a
quick dinner, then on up (in some snow on I-70) to the condo in
Breckenridge [2 Pictures].
Monday, March 4
Day 1 at Breckenridge and it was a powder day. We left the condo in
the morning in the snow [2
Pictures][3 Pictures] to pick up our
rental skis, then back to the condo to take the bus to the mountain.
Excellent first day [9 Pictures].
Later, we were back to the condo to make pasta for everyone and decide
on what to do tomorrow. A Liftopia deal on Copper made that decision
easy.
Tuesday, March 5
This was Copper Mountain day. We had to drive there from Breckenridge
in the morning [4
Pictures][6 Pictures], a
process complicated by the fact that we needed to print out our
Liftopia receipts. This was accomplished at a print/copy place in
Frisco, and we were on our way [11
Pictures]. Another great day, this one on fresh powder under
bright sunny skies. We have a lot more pictures from the
day: [18
Pictures][26
Pictures][1 Movie]. After skiing, we
headed back to Breckenridge [5
Pictures] and we went for a nice dinner in town at The Warming Hut
restaurant. Mike has some additional pictures of the condo taken that
evening [4 Pictures].
Wednesday, March 6
Back to Breckenridge. In the morning, we had to clear out of the
condo [2 Pictures], as we would be heading
to Denver after skiing. This time, we drove to town and parked near
the gondola loading area. We had a very different but just as
excellent a day under sunny skies and with plenty of
snow [25
Pictures][8 Pictures]. After
skiing and returning our skis, it was time to head on down to Denver
[29 Road Pictures]. We eventually
figured out how to navigate to the hotel's parking garage, checked in,
cleaned up, and found some dinner nearby at a sports bar.
Thursday, March 7
This was the first full day at
SIGCSE 2013, the
primary reason for the trip. The conference was very good, and lunch
at Illegal Pete's was excellent.
Friday, March 8
Day 2 at SIGCSE and the day
of our
talk. Otherwise, another good day at the conference. With
nothing official going on that I was interested during the evening, I
took the light rail down to the University of Denver for a college
hockey game at Magness Arena [3
Pictures].
Saturday, March 9
This was the last day of SIGCSE, and a big snowstorm was in the
forecast. The storm never materialized in
Denver [Picture], yet many people had
flights cancelled. We were not flying out until Sunday anyway, so we
stayed through to the conference lunch, the official end of the main
part of the conference. When it was time for dinner, I found Bayou
Bob's for some excellent southern food.
Sunday, March 10
With the snowstorm over, there was no problem with travel home..
