A very short visit to Sweden.

Looks like they use bikes here, too. [1024x768][2048x1536]

[1024x768][2048x1536]

BK in the Malmö central station. [1024x768][2048x1536]

The City Hall of Malmö, built in the 16th Century. The text on the building says "This building was risen in 1546, changed and improved in 1812, widened and made more beautiful in 1868-69", in Swedish. Thanks to Andreas Vilén for identifying the building and translating the text. [1024x768][2048x1536]

From that same spot. [1024x768][2048x1536]

Again. [1024x768][2048x1536]

One of the canals, with a statue of a cat sitting on a step. [1024x768][2048x1536]

Looking the other way, and there's another cat statue. [1024x768][2048x1536]

And two more fake cats. [1024x768][2048x1536]

An American-looking view (Pizza Hut, Ramada, Hilton) in the middle of Malmö. [1024x768][2048x1536]

Yet another fountain. [1024x768][2048x1536]

The Swedish flag flying in front of the Hilton. [1024x768][2048x1536]

Made it to 13 degrees east here. A new personal record. [1024x768][2048x1536]

These banners were everywhere. A reader of this page has pointed out that they are advertisements for a local water park. [1024x768][2048x1536]

In a park, these ducks thought "someone stopped on the bridge" meant "someone is going to feed us". [1024x768][2048x1536]

But they were disappointed. [1024x768][2048x1536]

These seems to say something about a WWII bombing here, but there was no translation. A reader of this page tells me that the plaques do in fact mark the spots where Nazi bombs were dropped on Malmö during WWII, despite the fact that Sweden was neutral. [1024x768][2048x1536]

[1024x768][2048x1536]

[1024x768][2048x1536]

[1024x768][2048x1536]

Out of the park and on a residential street. [1024x768][2048x1536]

About back to the station. [1024x768][2048x1536]

The inlet to the canals. [1024x768][2048x1536]

Lighthout along the entrance to the canals. [1024x768][2048x1536]

[1024x768][2048x1536]

Another monument that refers to the WWII years. Eric Hede from Uppsala sent me a note saying that the big text translates approximately as "Sailors from Malmö and the surrounding areas gave their lives for the country's maintenence the war years 1939-1945. May their memories be honored." Thanks to Eric for the translation. Eric also says that he thinks that the smaller text is the names of those who lost their lives and the names of their ships. [1024x768][2048x1536]

Another view of the lighthouse and the nearby suspension bridge. [1024x768][2048x1536]

There's another lighthouse to the right of the bridge in the distance. [1024x768][2048x1536]
