These are the pictures from the first part of our quick 2018 Midwest trip, which is just the ride from Amsterdam to Omaha.
July 25: Amsterdam, New York, to Elkhart, Indiana
We started from Amsterdam at 8:25. It was a somewhat rainy ride out the Thruway, but nothing to cause any trouble. Once we finished up our gas and lunch stop in Henrietta (Chipotle), and made out way back to the Thruway, it was all good weather. An early dinner (and shoe shopping) stop was in Brooklyn Heights (Skyline), and then it was on through the evening to the same Sleep Inn in Elkhart where we've stayed a few times lately, by around 9:30 PM. The ride was almost all on familiar roads, with just a few new state highways around lunch and a little stretch of US 42 after dinner. [24 Pictures from the roads].
July 26: Elkhart, Indiana, to Papillion, Nebraska
We got on our by 8:00, and got right onto the Toll Road. Plans to take a new way across Illinois (mostly I-88) were cancelled by construction delays along that route, so it was back to I-80 for most of the day. Exceptions were some stretches of US 6 after a short break in Morris, Illinois, and again after our Culver's lunch in Geneseo, Illinois. We took I-74 through Moline, and saw progress on the new bridge over the Mississippi. We arrived in Papillion in time for the big surprise. [50 Pictures from the roads].
