Worcester - March 23-25, 2001

These pictures were taken with my Olympus C2100-Z digital camera on a trip to the NCAA Men's Hockey East Regional in Worcester, Massachusetts, March 23-25, 2001. None of the pictures actually have anything to do with hockey, since the NCAA doesn't allow people to bring cameras into the games. So I have a small collection of pictures from the road and from around Worcester. So the usual warning about there being lots of pictures of road signs really applies here - there is almost nothing BUT pictures of roads and road signs.

All images are 24-bit JPEGs and should be viewed on a 24-bit display. Quality is likely to be very poor when viewed on an 8-bit display. Most images are shown at a resolution of 640x480, but are available in 800x600 and full 1600x1200 sizes by clicking on the links after the captions.

I left Williamstown late in the morning [Picture]. I had to make a stop at a furniture store in Adams, so I first took Massachusetts 2 East to North Adams, then Massachusetts 8 [2 Pictures] South through Adams to Pittsfield [2 Pictures]. From Pittsfield it was South on US 7 and East on US 20 to the Mass Pike at Exit 2 in Lee [Picture]. From there it was East on the Mass Pike [5 Pictures] to I-495 South [2 Pictures] to meet Rob Foulis in Wrentham.

We headed right back out to go to Worcester for the games. Rob drove, so I had a chance to take more pictures [4 Pictures]. After lunch at a small pizza place in Worcester, we headed to the Centrum [2 Pictures] for the games. We saw two great overtime games. First, Colorado College defeated St. Lawrence, 3-2, in double overtime....

...then Maine tied their game with Minnesota with 2.7 seconds left then went on to win in the first overtime. The second game ended at nearly 1 AM, and we got back to Rob's at 2 [Picture].

During the daylight portion of Saturday, we drove up to Worcester late in the morning [Picture]. From there, we took my car for a trip to look around South of Worcester. We took I-395 South [2 Pictures] to Webster, where we got lunch at a great little Polish deli [Picture]. After lunch, we drove around Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg [4 Pictures] then back up to Worcester [4 Pictures].

We had a little more time to look around Worcester before game time, so we drove by WPI's campus and up to Assumption College's campus and around a small loop on the North side of town. Then it was to the Centrum to park, look around the mall for a bit, a short walk through downtown Worcester, then the games. No overtime tonight, but two teams advanced to the Frozen Four. North Dakota beat Colorado College, 4-1, then Boston College beat Maine, 3-1.

These games ended much earlier, and I was on the road by 11:30, headed back to Williamstown....

The ride was smooth until some snow squalls made US 7 slick from the Mass Pike all the way to Williamstown. I got in at 1:44 [Picture].
