Albuquerque, New Mexico - May 22, 2004
These pictures were taken with my Olympus C730 Ultra Zoom digital
camera in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on May 22, 2004. This was my last
full day in Albuquerque and I decided to drive around town taking
pictures of "Albuquerque things".
Most images are shown at a resolution of 640x480, but are available

the captions.
North on Wyoming between Spain and Academy.
[2048x1536]
Every town has Wal-Mart, but Albuquerque has tons of them.
[2048x1536]
Eastbound on Academy toward Sandia Peak.
[2048x1536]
Continuing on Academy.
[2048x1536]
[2048x1536]
Getting closer to the mountains.
[2048x1536]
In Albuquerque, you can turn left off of Tramway to find Futures for
Children. How nice.
[2048x1536]
On the Sandia Reservation on Tramway Blvd.
[2048x1536]
Sandias from a side road along Tramway.
[2048x1536]
High desert in that same spot.
[2048x1536]
[2048x1536]
Where do you think the boundary of the reservation is?
[2048x1536]
[2048x1536]
View toward the city.
[2048x1536]
Looking west across the Rio Grande with Mt. Taylor in the distance.
[2048x1536]
Zooming in in the direction of the volcanoes.
[2048x1536]
View to the southwest.
[2048x1536]
Coming up on Sandia Casino.
[2048x1536]
There it is. In all these months in New Mexico, I didn't make it to
any of the local casinos.
[2048x1536]
But I did get to El Pinto a few times.
[2048x1536]
[2048x1536]
There's El Pinto. No time for that on this day, though.
[2048x1536]
4th Street coming up on Alameda.
[2048x1536]
Older-looking church at the corner of 4th and Alameda.
[2048x1536]
Crossing the Rio Grande on Alameda.
[2048x1536]
The Rudy's Bar-B-Q on the West Side. Rudy's is one of my favorites in
the area.
[2048x1536]
One of many generic shopping centers on the West Side.
[2048x1536]
Crossing Paseo Del Norte on Coors.
[2048x1536]
Another local chain - Dion's. I wasn't impressed.
[2048x1536]
Furr's. I didn't go to one of these this time around, but I did eat
there once on a previous Albuquerque visit. Mediocre food and poor
service. Which is why I didn't go to one of these this time around.
[2048x1536]
Del Taco is everywhere out here. So is Taco Bell, but why would
anyone go to these places when there are so many good Mexican places?
[2048x1536]
Now on Central in the far West Side.
[2048x1536]
Coming down the hill toward downtown.
[2048x1536]
I didn't stay at either Cibola Court or the "Super 6".
[2048x1536]
Local burger chain, Bob's Burgers.
[2048x1536]
I never got up enough nerve to try "Pop'n Taco". I think it was the
spinning sign that really scared me away.
[2048x1536]
Crossing back over the Rio Grande on Central.
[2048x1536]
A local burrito place.
[2048x1536]
Continuing on Central, also known as Business Loop I-40 and Historic
66 (though that's a regular US 66 shield right there).
[2048x1536]
Coming into downtown on Central.
[2048x1536]
Man's Hat Shop, known to Imus listeners.
[2048x1536]
[2048x1536]
[2048x1536]
Tucano's Brazilian BBQ.
[2048x1536]
Central Ave goes under the Santa Fe RR.
[2048x1536]
Now near the UNM, it's the Frontier Restaurant.
[2048x1536]
One of the many old US 66 motels along Central. Most are in varying
states of disrepair.
[2048x1536]
I never ate at May Cafe. It's a Vietnamese place near Central and
Louisiana, but why is there a giant lumberjack on the roof? Lots of
Vietnamese lumberjacks passed through Albuquerque and started
restaurants?
[2048x1536]
Never made it to Griff's.
[2048x1536]
Did make it to Blake's a few times. Decent burgers. Try them if
you're in New Mexico.
[2048x1536]
Local chain, Golden Pride. Chicken, ribs, and Mexican.
[2048x1536]
One of the many Sonic Drive-In's in Albuquerque (and most of the south).
[2048x1536]
Wienerschnitzel. Never made it to one of these.
[2048x1536]
Probably my favorite Albuquerque fast food - Twisters. Maybe a
burrito smothered with lettuce, tomato, cheese, curly fries and green
chiles doesn't sound good at first, but they're addicting.
[2048x1536]
Raley's Supermarket.
[2048x1536]
Westbound on Spain, with the volcanoes in the distance.
[2048x1536]
Back at Valle Grande.
[2048x1536]
The InTown Suites where I stayed for 2 weeks in December.
[2048x1536]
An Albuquerque favorite of mine - the Teriyaki Chicken Bowl.
