The Matanuska Glacier at Glacier View Park, June 21, 2001

Andrew negotiating a section of ice. [800x600][1600x1200]

It's hard to tell what this is, but it's a fast-running stream passing over a rock, under an ice canopy. [800x600][1600x1200]

From this angle, you can see the overhang of the ice a little better. [800x600][1600x1200]

[800x600][1600x1200]

A neat little area with lots of blue. [800x600][1600x1200]

Another winding stream, but bigger and with a lot more rocks mixed in. [800x600][1600x1200]

A large rock balancing on one of these streams. [800x600][1600x1200]

An even larger rock balanced on a piece of ice in its shadow. [800x600][1600x1200]

This large wall of ice and rocks above a small lake didn't look like much at first, but standing there for a few minutes, we noticed that rocks and pieces of ice were falling from it into the water. Once in a while, a larger rock would come down and make a bigger splash. If we had more time, this would be a great place to sit for a while, since it looked like a few of the larger chunks of ice hanging over the water were probably getting ready to fall. [800x600][1600x1200]

Back at the car. [800x600][1600x1200]

And driving out on this narrow, rickety bridge to climb a narrow and seemingly pretty unstable road back up to the highway. [800x600][1600x1200]
