CCSC Eastern Trip - October 24-26, 2019

Thursday, October 24 - Amsterdam, New York, to Coraopolis, Pennsylvania

No Fall 2019 classes on Thursdays, so I was able to take an interesting route to the Pittsburgh area. I got on the road pretty early, around 8 AM. I started by going west on the Thruway to I-81. South of Syracuse, I left the interstates for a while, to take New York 281 down to Cortland, then New York 13, New York 38, New York 366, then New York 13 again to Ithaca and continuing on to I-86 near Horseheads. I left the interstate pretty quickly again to take New York 352 into Corning. I had a nice lunch there from SlamminJammin BBQ, walked the downtown area some, checking out the river and the Corning store [6 Pictures]. From there, I took New York's stub of I-99 and then US 15 to Williamsport [4 Pictures from Welcome Center]. US 220 (and some Pennsylvania 150 and Alternate US 220) and the other I-99 took me to Altoona. Next was US 22 across to Pittsburgh where I encountered evening rush hour traffic, then made my way to the hotel and dinner at a nearby Chick-fil-A in Coraopolis. [121 Road and Sign Pictures]

Friday, October 25 - First Day of CCSC Eastern

The conference started in the afternoon, so I took a few hours in the morning to explore off toward the west, briefly crossing into West Virginia and Ohio, mainly on US 22 out and US 30 back [35 Pictures]. When I arrived near the RMU campus, I had lunch at a small but popular Teriyaki place nearby, then spent the rest of the day at the conference [2 Pictures], including the banquet and plenary talk in the evening.

Saturday, October 26 - Second Day of CCSC Eastern and Ride Home

I spent the morning, including my own presentation at the conference, then headed for home. For something different, I primarily went up I-376 to I-80, took mostly US highways through northwestern Pennsylvania and western New York, before hopping onto the Thruway for the ride across most of New York state.
