Naples, Florida, to Rocky Mount, North Carolina - January 1, 2005
From the 840-mile drive, mostly up I-75, US 301, and I-95.
Preparing for some new development along Golden Gate Parkway in Naples.
[2048x1536]
On I-75 north in the Port Charlotte area, we passed through hurricane damage again. Lots of blue tarps are still in use.
[2048x1536]
Looks like the worse of it went through here.
[2048x1536]
[2048x1536]
[2048x1536]
[2048x1536]
[2048x1536]
[2048x1536]
Now north of Tampa, I-275 rejoins I-75.
[2048x1536]
Traffic slowdown for several miles south of Ocala. Everyone had to slow down to see an accident being cleaned up.
[2048x1536]
Flatness of central Florida.
[2048x1536]
"Orange Land" off of our exit to cut over to US 301 in Ocala.
[2048x1536]
Ocala.
[2048x1536]
Made it to US 301 (and more).
[2048x1536]
[2048x1536]
Stop for Oranges in Hawthorne, Florida.
[2048x1536]
The citrus stand.
[2048x1536]
And continuing north on US 301.
[2048x1536]
Crossing I-10 on US 301.
[2048x1536]
[2048x1536]
US 301 joins US 90 for a little bit.
[2048x1536]
And then it's a 2-lane road for a while.
[2048x1536]
Big hill as US 301 crosses a river.
[2048x1536]
And even a 5% grade!
[2048x1536]
[2048x1536]
At Callahan, we leave US 301 and take the northernmost piece of A1A over to I-95.
[2048x1536]
[2048x1536]
And onto I-95 for the rest of the day.
[2048x1536]
Into Georgia.
[2048x1536]
Stop here for gas, onions, and more citrus.
[2048x1536]
[2048x1536]
[2048x1536]
Then on into South Carolina and soon after, darkness.
