Kalapana, Hawaii - August 29, 2006
The former site of the Kalapana Black Sand Beach. In 1990, lava flows
destroyed the entire area.
New lava flows off to the left near the southern end of Route 137.
The beach was right around here until 1990.
Walking along on what was ocean not so long ago.
View north toward the current eruption.
This coconut has started to grow.
Can't go south from here.
This coconut tried and failed.
