Mather House Moves - September 9-10, 2002

These pictures were taken with my Olympus C2100-UZ digital camera on the campus of Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, on September 9 and 10, 2002. The occasion is the move of the old admissions building (Mather House) from Main Street to a new location on Stetson Court.

All images are 24-bit JPEGs and should be viewed on a 24-bit display. Quality is likely to be very poor when viewed on an 8-bit display. Most images are shown at a resolution of 640x480, but are available in 800x600 and full 1600x1200 sizes by clicking on the links after the captions.

On Monday the 9th, a look down Stetson Court, which has had all trees near the road removed. [800x600][1600x1200]

Street lights were also dismantled. [800x600][1600x1200]

There is the house, now "parked" along the side of Main Street (Rte 2). [800x600][1600x1200]

A closer view across Main Street. [800x600][1600x1200]

This is the lot where the house used to be. It is being moved to make way for construction of the new theater complex at Williams. [800x600][1600x1200]

Now on Tuesday the 10th, by midmorning, the house is half way down Stetson Court. [800x600][1600x1200]

A closer view. [800x600][1600x1200]

It's just not something you see every day. [800x600][1600x1200]

Back in the office, a grasshopper found its way onto the screen. [800x600][1600x1200]

At the end of the day, the house is done moving, for now. This truck belongs to the house moving company. I didn't know such companies existed. [800x600][1600x1200]

The house seems to be parked next to its future location. [800x600][1600x1200]

They seem to be building a foundation for it. [800x600][1600x1200]

I guess that board is to make sure the house doesn't roll away or anything. [800x600][1600x1200]
