PCL Playoffs: Nashville at Albuquerque - September 5, 2003

These pictures were taken at the Pacific Coast League playoff game between the Nashville Sounds and the Albuquerque Isotopes at Isotopes Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on September 5, 2003. They were taken with my Olympus C730 Ultra Zoom digital camera. Most images are shown at a resolution of 640x480, but are available in full 2048x1536 size by clicking on the links after the captions.

The park is great, almost completely rebuilt from the old Albuquerque Sports Stadium. I only saw one game at the old place, but even I know that this is completely different. The team name is also great, appropriate not only to those who know their Simpsons (anyone remember where Springfield's team was going to move in the Dancin' Homer episode?), but appropriate for an area with so much nuclear research going on.

The game had a little of everything. 4 walks and a hit batsman in the top of the first, a 6-run rally including an inside-the-park home run hit to the top of the hill in center field in the bottom of the first, outstanding defensive plays, the teams trading 3-run innings in the 11th, and a winning rally helped by a double that hit the ball boy and his chair in the 12th, a total of 7 home runs allowed by the 15 pitchers (who also struck out 21 and were helped by 4 double plays in a game that took over 4 hours), and a scorecard that had 9 different players in the 9th spot in the order for Albuquerque. The Sounds beat the 'Topes, 12-10 in 12 innings. More in the picture captions on the pages linked below.
