These pictures were taken with my Panasonic Lumix FZ80 and my Google
Pixel 6a phone at Montage Mountain near Scranton, Pennsylvania, on
February 25, 2025.
I had the opportunity on my way to
a conference in Pittsburgh to
use an Indy Pass day at Montage Mountain. This marked my first skiing
in Pennsylvania and the furthest south I've skied in the East. It was
about 50 and cloudy with some breaks of sun for the first 90 minutes
for totally different snow than I'd skied since the last late December
warmup. It started raining just before I went in for lunch and was
still raining when I came back our for a few more runs after. Really
pleasant snow, though, and a ton of it on the trails. There were more
people than I expected on a day with rain but still not the least bit
crowded. I was pleasantly surprised by how steep the expert trails
are, especially White Lightning which featured some really fun soft
bumps. It's not a place that makes much sense for me to drive to just
to ski, but I'd gladly do it again if it can be "on the way" somewhere
like it was this time.
