Florida - December 25, 2004-January 2, 2005
These pictures were taken during a very quick driving trip to Florida
in late 2004 and the first couple days of 2005. They were taken with
my Olympus C730 Ultra Zoom digital camera. Most images are shown at a
resolution of 640x480, but are available in full 2048x1536 size by
clicking on the links after the captions. From the drives, most of
the pictures are just roads and signs.

Christmas Day started with a tour from Williamstown,
Massachusetts, at 7:30 AM, with stops in: North Adams, Massachusetts;
West Springfield, Massachusetts; North Greenbush, New York; and
Amsterdam, New York (for a total of 200 miles before we started toward
Florida). By the time we left Amsterdam and headed south at 6:15 PM,
it was too dark for pictures. By midnight, we were in Baltimore,
Maryland, and had covered another 355 miles.
Sunday, December 26, 2004
We decided to swing west from DC to catch I-81 to avoid a developing
snow and ice storm in the Carolinas. We cut south from I-81 toward
Asheville, North Carolina, (west of the messy stuff along I-95) on the
new I-26. Around 7:30 AM (1045 miles in 24 hours since leaving
Williamstown including several lengthy stops), we were approaching the
Tennessee-North Carolina border along I-26 when it started to get
light enough to try some pictures [8
Pictures]. Then it was through Asheville and other places in
North Carolina [21 Pictures], and down to
I-85 in South Carolina [21 Pictures]. The
ride through Georgia on I-85, US 441, US 129, and I-75 was long and
slow [41 Pictures]. After that slow
ride, we made it to Florida not much before dark [6 Pictures]. 24 hours after leaving
Amsterdam, we had covered 1401 miles, good enough to get us into
northern Florida. Too dark for any more pictures at that point,
though we saw what looked like some impressive Hurricane Charley
damage in the Port Charlotte area on I-75. Arrival in Naples was at
11:30 PM, over 29 hours and 1679 nearly-nonstop miles after leaving
Amsterdam on Saturday evening.

Pictures are from some wakeboarding in Estero [4 Pictures] of Matthew [21 Pictures], Cathy [24 Pictures], Adam [23 Pictures] and Andrew [24 Pictures]. Then from a ride through
some of the damage from Hurricane Charley along I-75 [13 Pictures], in Punta Gorda [9 Pictures], and Pine Island [7 Pictures].

Nothing worthy of pictures today..

Picture event: a boat ride in Naples Bay [17
Pictures].
Saturday, January 1, 2005
For the ride back, it was just the straight shot up I-75, US 301, and
I-95, worthy of just a few pictures. [33
Pictures]. We made it 840 miles to Rocky Mount, North Carolina,
for the night.
Sunday, January 2, 2005
The rest of the ride took us up I-95 through Richmond to D.C. [33 Pictures], then I-295 and the
Baltimore-Washington Parkway [13 Pictures],
I-695 around Baltimore [13 Pictures], and
on up I-95 [8 Pictures], the New Jersey
Turnpike, Garden State Parkway, and New York Thruway. Just under 1500
miles total on the way home.
